Mahone Mix

... er, yes, I am going to talk about something related to Prison Break again. I *do* have other interests, I swear. I just don't enjoy them quite so much as talking about Prison Break.
SO. I was looking through some old posts on an LJ community and found a music mix dedicated to Mahone. It was nice enough, but it wasn't my kind of music and I didn't think it fit Alex very well. Also, I've been noticing that a large chunk of the YouTube vids about Mahone play to Linkin Park. Forgive me when I say 'eurgh'.
Well, you know I went and made my own Mahone-mix. Obviously.

These are the songs I chose from going through my iPod, along with song pertinent lyrics and my personal interpretation of some of the songs:

1. Brandy Alexander - Feist

Though I'd like to be the girl for him
And cross the sea and land for him
On milky skin my tongue is sand until
The ever-distant band begins to play

He's my Brandy Alexander
Always gets me into trouble
But that's another matter
Brandy Alexander

Though I know what I love most of him
I'm walking on needles and pins
My addiction to the worst of him
The low moon helps me sing

Goes down easy
It goes down easy

--> For me, this represents the fascination of the character of Alexander Mahone, especially the third stanza, which addresses how it can sometimes be his worst characteristics that I find compelling. Plus, it's got his first name in it.

2. What A Day - Greg Laswell

What a day to be alive
What a day to realize I'm not dead
What a day to save a dime
What a day to die trying

What a way to say goodbye
What a wonderful life now all aligned
What a way that you survive
What a day to say goodbye

Bring on the evening hours, I cry
Bring on the evidence
Of my life (Of my life)

What a day to give a damn
What a day for Gone With The Wind
What a day to start again
What a day to give up dry gin

--> This songs fits in before Oscar Shales came along and screwed everything up. It's what I imagine a peaceful and idyllic existence for Alex to be: sleepy and calm and grateful for all the little things.

3. Running Up That Hill - Placebo

It doesn't hurt me
You  want to feel how it feels
You want to know, know that it doesn't hurt me
You want to hear about the deal I'm making
You (Be running up that hill)
You and me (Be running up that hill)

And if I only could
Make a deal with God
And get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building
If I only could

--> For me, this song represents the barrier between Alex and Pam that rises when Alex begins to lie to his wife about Oscar Shales. They can't see each other's points of view, and Alex wants Pam to understand that he's pushing her away out of a twisted manifestation of love, but at the same time he doesn't want her to know the truth about Shales.

4. Wish I May - Ani DiFranco

Losing my love of adventure
I'm losing all respect for me and myself, tonight
I wonder what happens if I get to
The end of this tunnel and there isn't a light

Do you ever have that dream
Where you open your mouth and you try to scream
But you can't make a sound?
That's every day starting now
That's every day starting now

It's a stiff competition to see who can stay up later
The stars or the streetlights
All they really want is to be alone in the darkness
No more wish I may, no more wish I might

It takes a stiff upper lip just to hold up my face
I got to suck it up and savour the taste of my own behaviour
And I am spinning with longing
Faster than a roulette wheel
This is not who I meant to be
This is not how I meant to feel

5. Losing - Tina Dico

How many lies have you told today
Into the dark of your coffee cup
To cover up your footprints?
How many times have I heard you say, stay
Won't you let me tie you up
With minor chords and smoke rings?

Can anybody with truthful eyes
See anybody they recognize?
Careful confusion's a thin disguise
And I think you're losing
It seems you're losing
I think you're losing it

6. Secret - The Pierces

Got a secret, can you keep it?
Swear this one you'll save
Better lock it in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you, then I know you
Won't tell what I said
'Cause two can keep a secret
If one of them is dead

Why do you smile like you've been told a secret?
Now you're telling lies 'cause you have sworn to keep it
But no one keeps a secret, no one keeps a secret
Why, when we do, our darkest deeds do we tell?
They burn in our brains, become a living hell
'Cause everybody tells, everybody tells

--> Specifically, this song makes me think of the death of Tweener, but can also apply in general to Alex's habit of showing secret parts of himself to people he's meant to kill. This includes Tweener, Haywire, and C-Note.

7. Black Swan - Thom Yorke

What will grow crooked you can't make straight
It's the price that you gotta pay
Do yourself a favour and pack your bags
Buy a ticket and get on the train
Buy a ticket and get on the train

I am your black swan, black swan
(But I made it to the top, but I made it to the top)
And this is fucked up, fucked up
(But I made it to the top, but I made it to the top)
We are black swans, black swans
And for spare parts, we've broken up
You are fucked up, fucked up
This is fucked up, fucked up
We are black swans, black swans
And for spare parts, we've broken up

8. All These Lives - Chris Daughtry

They're gonna find you, just believe
You're not a person, you're a disease

All these lives that you've been taking
Deep inside, my heart is breaking
Broken homes from separation
Don't you know it's violation?
It's so wrong, but you'll see
Never gonna let you take my world from me
The world outside these walls may know you're breathing
But you ain't comin' in
You ain't comin' in

9. Mack the Knife - Michael Bublé

Oh, the shark has pearly teeth, dear
And it shows them pearly whites
Just a jackknife has MacHeath, dear
And it keeps it out of sight
You know that shark bites with its teeth, dear
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves, though, wears old MacHeath, dear
So there’s never, never a trace of red

Oh Sunday, Sunday morning
Lies a body just woozin' life
Someone sneakin' round the corner
Tell me could that someone be Mack the Knife?

--> Does this fit Alex? The lyrics don't, not really. I just wanted to include something that casts Alex's efficiency for killing in a jovial sort of light.

10. You Know My Name - Chris Cornell

If you take a life, do you know what you'll give?
Odds are, you won't like what it is
When the storm arrives, would you be seen with me
By the merciless eyes of deceit?

I've seen angels fall from blinding heights
But you yourself are nothing so divine
Just next in line

Arm yourself because no one else here will save you
The odds will betray you and I will replace you
You can't deny the prize, it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?

If you come inside things will not be the same
When you return to the lies
And if you think you've won
You never saw me change
The game that we have been playing

I've seen diamonds cut through harder men
Than you yourself, but if you must pretend
You may meet your end

--> This is actually the James Bond theme from Casino Royale. For me it always stood for the dynamic between Michael and Alex in season 2. I've never been able to decide whether the 'you' is Alex or Michael. It's kind of interchangeable.

11. Daydream in Blue - I Monster

I fell asleep amid the flowers
For a couple of hours
On a beautiful day

I dream of you amid the flowers
For a couple of hours
Such a beautiful day

--> This is Mahone's brain on drugs. Just say no.

12. Home - Alexi Murdoch

When do you really get to go home?
When do we really get to go home?

First you must go walking on your own

Maybe then we already are home

Row row row your boat
Gently down the stream

Gently down the stream now
Gently down the stream

--> Obviously, this represents Alex's motivation throughout the series -- to tie everything up and go home. It has the added plus of having been played on Prison Break while Haywire plummets to his death.

13. You're Wondering Now - Amy Winehouse

You're wondering now, what to do
Now you know this is the end
You're wondering how you will pay
For the way you've misbehaved

If you're interested, the entire mix can be downloaded here:
I also included some CD art I made. Heh. I've got so much time on my hands. Well hey, I'm sick. No judging.
Okay, that's all.
